There's a new member of the family! I have just started a sister site to Parent Picks Plus - it's called Real Food Family Meals, and it is a healthy food blog. On this blog I will "feed" my other passion, which is cooking.
Don't we all want to feed our families healthy meals? When you have young kids and a job and school activities all competing for your attention, it can be difficult to find time to cook at all, much less cook healthy meals. The purpose of my blog is to share healthy recipes and tips for eating more "real" food and less junk, like overly processed convenience foods.
The first step is to be be mindful of what you are feeding your family and eating yourself, as in, "Is it healthy? Is it real? What's in it? Where did it come from?" When you ask yourself those questions, you will really be aware of what you are putting into your children's bodies.
The second step is to plan ahead. It is too tempting to order out for pizza or drive through a fast-food joint when you are busy and pressed for time. If you find you do not have time to plan out your own meals, try a service like "Menu Planning Central," where they provide 16 weekly menus each month (4 Family-Friendly, 4 Healthy, 4 Vegetarian, 4 Frugal) along with lists of the groceries you need to make those dishes. Talk about a time saver! You can even get their free "Menu Planning Basics" e-book right now!
**April 11-16, 2013: Huge HALF-PRICE SALE at Menu Planning Central! Try it out for less than 10 bucks!
So head on over to Real Food Family Meals. While the blog is still in its infancy, so far I have some great posts on 10 Healthy Snacks for School Lunches and How to Make a Healthy Eating Plan You Can Stick To. Plus check out my recipe for Tomato Kale Pasta Salad and my Taco Night tips.
To your family's health!
